From the financial networks of the Medellín Cartel to the Iran-Contra investigations and America’s federal prisons, Ramón Milián Rodríguez’s controversial life returns to the spotlight in LORD OF MONEY: El Señor del Dinero, a new book by investigative journalist, writer, and producer Tony Cortés.
A Florida-certified public accountant, Milián Rodríguez became associated with the financial operations of Pablo Escobar’s cartel, managing enormous sums of money through international networks. His testimony before the U.S. Senate in the late 1980s brought additional attention to allegations concerning drug money and the financing of Nicaragua’s Contra rebels, placing his story at the intersection of organized crime, politics, and international power.
The book explores his financial activities, his conviction and imprisonment, and the controversies surrounding his testimony. It also examines the broader historical context of the Medellín Cartel and the connections between illicit fortunes and covert international operations.
For Cortés, the project represents sixteen years of investigation through interviews, archival records, court documents, and testimonies. The work forms part of SHADOW CRIMES, his literary franchise exploring the complex relationships between crime, justice, intelligence, money, and power.
Following Justicia en la Sombra: El juicio de Fabio Ochoa Vásquez, Cortés returns to the history of the Medellín Cartel from a different perspective, focusing on the financial machinery that helped sustain its international operations.
The book launch is planned for Sabor Havana Cigars & Cocktail Lounge in Miami, where, according to the organizers, Ramón Milián Rodríguez is expected to join Cortés for a presentation and signing.
